Chatham-Kent council is moving forward with plans for a bike trail around the community of Mitchell’s Bay.

A tender for a bike trail scheduled to be built in Mitchell’s Bay this summer was approved at last night’s council meeting.

Armstrong Paving and Materials Group Ltd. had the winning tender, coming in with a $291,290 bid.

“It really does complete an awesome trail system that is already here,” said North Kent councillor Jamie McGrail.

The lane would be built along Bay Line, which is the only roadway leading into the Lake St. Clair community. The route will be a key connector for the Trans Canada Trail, the Great Trail and the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

Completing the bike lane has been a long-term project of the Mitchell’s Bay Area Association, as the community association has committed $25,000 towards the project.
