A long-standing safety program will no longer being funded by the United Way.
The Chatham-Kent Block Parent Program started in 1978 and has become a symbol of safety in the community.
For the past 17 years, it has been funding under the United Way of Chatham-Kent, however that is coming to an end next March.
According to Block Parent chairperson Tanya Nooyen, the United Way has shifted its focus to support programs that tackle Chatham-Kent’s biggest issues, like addiction, poverty, and mental health, officials say they were denied funding for 2019-2021 for not meeting the agency’s “letter of intent” criteria.
While the group is grateful for the United Way’s contributions, they are now seeking a new source of funding.
