It’s the end of an era in Chatham-Kent – after 41 years, Block Parents is closing down this month.

Outreach Coordinator Deanna Bullard says after losing its funding through the United Way earlier this year, the program was unable to find any new sources of revenue.

“Especially in this time because we know we’re on the route for the sex market, for people that have been taken. It is sad, but times have changed  less and less people at home, even though Block Parents have tried to change with the time and you only put out the sign when you’re home. A lot of people aren’t coming forward with that,” says Bullard.

Organizers will remain in the office for the next few weeks, and are asking any volunteers to return their Block Parent signs by June 15th.
