BMO Bank of Montreal will be closing its Wallaceburg branch in the spring, forcing local residents to travel to Chatham for service.

BMO announced late last month that the branch at 770 James St. will be closing its doors for good on June 19, 2026 at 5 p.m. A notice was sent out to local clients, advising them that they can continue to do their banking at the North Maple Centre branch at 819 St. Clair St. in Chatham.

A reason for the closure in Wallaceburg has not been released.

BMO said all bank accounts, loans and investments will be transferred to the Chatham branch. Account numbers and cheques will remain unchanged.

Anyone with a safety deposit box at the Wallaceburg branch is asked to attend the bank before May 15, 2026 to close out the service.

Under federal regulations, those affected could be entitled to a meeting to address the closure with BMO representatives and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), the government body responsible for financial entities. Those who would like a meeting held can submit a written request to the FCAC commissioner. For more information, click here.
