The Boardwalk on the Thames residential project in downtown Chatham has been in the news often over the last several years, mostly for its construction delays, and cost over runs, but now it is finally ready to open.

Council first granted approval for the project in 2011, and a ground-breaking at the King Street West site was held in April 2013.

After almost a decade, the first tenants are expected to move in next week.

Lynne O’Brien is the leasing agent and says the large apartment complex is being billed as luxury living in downtown Chatham.

“This building is a gem, it has taken a lot of years, it is a great building, every unit is climate-controlled,” O’Brien says. “It’s a welcome addition to downtown Chatham. You know, it’s walkable, all the festivals and events are here.”

The units start at $2,000 a month for a one-bedroom with a den that is just under 1,000 square feet, up to a three-bedroom unit with a terrace.

About half of the 88 units are still available to rent, and the developer believes the entire project should be complete this coming June.

Tere are also a pair of retail spaces available to be leased in the building.
