Chatham-Kent’s Bradley Convention Centre will be decked out as the first COVID shots are given to those five and up.

Medical Officer Dr. David Colby says registration for the new pediatric version of the vaccine has been well received so far.

“It’s going to be very child-friendly, we’ve had a very high level of interest, all kinds of people calling in and using the website to make appointments,” Colby says. “I suspect we’re going to see a real flurry of activity, especially in the first few weeks.”

Colby says the bulk of kids’ vaccines will be administered at the Bradley Centre, but some school-based clinics will be offered in the weeks ahead.

“We have three school-based clinics planned at the moment. We really like the Bradley Centre approach. It has been so efficient and works so well, so when this gets all decked out in child-friendly incarnation, I think it will work very well for the kids.”

School-based clinics are planned for December 6th at Blenheim District High School, Wallaceburg District Secondary School on December 13th, and Tilbury District High School on December 20th, all open to those born in 2016 and earlier, running from 3-8pm.

The prospect of vaccinating children against COVID-19 has given rise to protests in some jurisdictions, including Windsor and Sarnia. However, Colby says local authorities won’t stand for any kind of disruption.

“I have spoken to (Police) Chief Conn and he says he is ready and will not tolerate any kind of interference with the lawful activities of people seeking health care.”

Appointments at the Bradley Centre can be booked online at getyourshotck.ca or by calling the Chatham-Kent booking hotline – 519-351-1010.
