A petition asking permission for Bothwell to secede from Chatham-Kent has been presented to the Ford Government.
The document, which had been in circulation since September 2024, requests that the Ontario government “release” the town and township from the municipality and amalgamate it with Lambton County as a lower-tier municipality to govern itself.
Spokesperson Emery Huszka would not say how many signatures were collected.
Back in January, Huszka said he planned to give the petition to Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault to deliver to Queens Park. However, it was independent MPP Bobbi Ann Brady from Haldimand-Norfolk who tabled the petition in the Legislature this past Wednesday.
