The revitalization of Wallaceburg’s Branch 18 Legion is getting a significant boost thanks to a generous donation in honour of a dedicated community member.

The family of Steve Bilodeau will be making a $275,000 donation to the Legion’s fundraising campaign. The funds will go towards overhauling the Margaret Avenue facility, expanding the river-side patio, and adding a redesigned bar and dining room.

As a result of the donation, the Legion is renaming the facility’s second floor the Steve Bilodeau Event Center.

Bilodeau was a local business owner who was passionate about Wallaceburg and a strong supporter of the Wallaceburg Legion who passed away almost two years ago.

This Saturday would have been Bilodeau’s 61st birthday.

While a financial goal has not been set for the campaign, the revitalization of the Legion will likely cost over $1 million.

The renovations are expected to be complete in time for the Legion’s 100th anniversary in 2026.
