Break-And-Enter Requires Tactical Police Response

A local man has been charged after tactical police and a K9 unit were used to apprehend a break-and-enter suspect in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service received a complaint of an unauthorized person inside the fenced compound of a business on Queens Line at around 10:20 a.m. on Saturday.

Officers arrived at the scene and secured all points of entry and exit to the area before deploying a drone, which confirmed that someone was inside the compound. After calls to come out were ignored, officers requested assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team and K9 unit.

A 29-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested at the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m., and is now charged with break and enter with intent. He will remain in custody at the Southwest Regional Detention Center until his next court appearance.
