Chatham-Kent council will meet tonight and tomorrow, as they work on the municipality’s 2022 budget.

The draft budget includes a proposed 4.74 per cent tax increase, which is a starting point for council.

On tonight’s budget meeting agenda, council will hear the results of recent community engagement and hear what residents want to see either included or excluded in the budget.

Council will also hear about new staffing requests for this year in various municipality departments.

The municipally-owned Riverview Gardens, a long-term care home, will be asking for almost 30 new positions, as they have to hire more nurses and personal support workers due to provincial regulations regarding patient care at long-term care homes, which requires more hours of care per resident per day.
