Chatham-Kent council will be back deliberating over the 2016 municipal budget tonight.
According to Budget Chair Derek Robertson when it comes to budget deliberations dealing with service cuts is always the hardest thing so that is why they changed up the agenda.
“We all know that’s the most difficult portion of the budget,” says Robertson. “Then council can become innovative and creative and find their path as to what the end result of the budget will be.”
Councillor Steve Pinsonneault says they heard a lot of opposition from the community on closures in the municipality. “We got a lot of outcry. This is a very important asset. I believe that now they realize it’s time to go to work and they’re going to make this a viable entity within their community.”
The tax base did go up from the recommended 3.29% to 3.43%.
