On the eve of a one-day strike by high school teachers, the local student transportation operator is putting safety first.

CLASS school services posted an online statement yesterday to say if the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation hasn’t been able to reach a deal with the province before tomorrow, there will be no bus service for high school students.

“We recognize that on many secondary bus runs across the system, both LKDSB and SCCDSB students ride the bus together. Given the potential for an LKDSB secondary student to board a bus inadvertently during this strike, please be advised that school bus drivers will be diligent to verbally notify students at stops about the closures and not allow students for the closed LKDSB secondary schools to board their buses. All SCCDSB secondary students and LKDSB & SCCDSB elementary students will be transported as normal.”

Public elementary and all Catholic schools will remain open tomorrow and busing will continue for those students as normal.
