Businesses Impacted By Protests at the Ambassador Bridge

Businesses in Canada and the US are calling for those protesting against COVID mandates to stand down.

A group of Canadian and US business associations, including the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce, say blocking the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor raises significant concerns about stalled economic activity and more supply chain issues.

The group says the disruption at the Windsor-Detroit border is an attack on the well-being of citizens and the businesses that employ them. It’s also urging federal, provincial, state, and local governments to work together to find a quick solution to illegal blockages of traffic.

Meantime, on Wednesday the Ford Motor Company had to close its Windsor engine plant and shift the Oakville assembly plant to a reduced schedule because of parts shortages.

While commercial traffic is now able to move across the Ambassador Bridge from Windsor to Detroit, traffic coming into Canada remains blocked off.

Windsor Police Chief Pam Mizuno said authorities are taking a diplomatic approach to negotiate a safe and sustainable resolution to the protest.
