The Children’s Treatment Centre ‘Butterfly Building Campaign’ is within striking distance of the finish line for funding.
Michael Genge, Executive Director of the CTC-CK Foundation says they’re still working on getting provincial funding with a meeting expected to be held later this month.
“We’re working with (MPPs) Rick Nicholls, Monte McNaughton, Lisa McLeod, they’re supposed to be coming in May to see us and we’ll work with Minister McLeod on getting our final funding.”
Genge says with the land picked out and the community fundraising going well, he believes the project is ready to move forward.
“I’m really optimistic, in the last budget they gave money to two other (treatment centre) sites, one in Ajax and one in Ottawa, so they’re not cutting, which is good.”
The Butterfly Building Campaign has reached 90% of its community fundraising goal of $6-million.The project’s total cost is estimated at $28.5-million, but can’t move forward without government support.
The client base at the Treatment Centre has grown from around 200 when the current building opened to more than 3000 now, with an increase in staff and programs offered.
