Things will look a little different for the annual Buxton Homecoming celebrations this weekend, but the party will carry on, despite the pandemic.

Buxton’s Next Generation spokesperson Michelle Robbins says all of the usual events will still be happening, just online.

“We’re going to be doing a virtual Party in the Park, that’s going to be posted on our social media (Saturday) night,” Robbins says. “We’re going to have some live music we’re going to be posting as well as some music from our DJ who we normally have, so people can get their party on still, but virtually in their own homes.”

Sunday’s church service and the parade on Monday will also be celebrated online.

A series of videos have been posted over the last few weeks, celebrating the traditions and memories of Homecomings past.

“We’ve been able to get virtually every generation, starting with the newest generation which is the age of 9, and then going to the oldest generation, who is 102,” Robbins says. “Everybody has the same sentiment, everybody says ‘family’ in their video, and that’s really what Buxton Homecoming is about, it’s about family and coming home.”

Robbins says the Buxton Museum will be closed this weekend, but the grounds are still available for those who want to gather with appropriate physical distancing.

The online celebrations can be found on the Homecoming Facebook page or the Buxton Museum website.
