C-K Arenas Start To Open This Saturday

The municipality is moving forward with opening some local arenas beginning this weekend.
Both Tilbury and Blenheim’s arenas will be open this Saturday.
Dresden’s Ken Houston Memorial Arena will re-open on August 28th, pending repairs to the chiller plate.
The Director of Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries, Jeff Bray says staff continues to review ice demand to determine if additional openings are required. However, Bray says at this time, there are no immediate plans to expand the arena openings at this time.
That includes all three arenas in Chatham and Wallaceburg’s Memorial Arena.
“Staff will review ice demand for the regular season,” says Bray. “September 20 (and) onwards to determine if the Wallaceburg Arena should be opened.”
“At this time there’s minimal demand in Chatham,” he says. “Memorial and Erickson typically do not open until September due to the lack of effective dehumidification systems in each arena. We continue to monitor user demand and will make adjustments if warranted.”
Bray adds that the Thames Campus Arena in Chatham needs a header replacement, which should be completed by mid-September.
