The 2022 municipal election campaign is officially underway in Chatham-Kent.
With the nomination period now closed, the list of candidates running for council and the mayor’s seat has been finalized.
Incumbent Mayor Darrin Canniff is running for a second term against political newcomers Andy Fisher and William Pickard.
The two Ward 5 council seats for Wallaceburg are uncontested with only incumbent councillors Aaron Hall and Carmen McGregor in the running.
However, the same cannot be said for Ward 6 in Chatham with 16 candidates in the running. Amy Finn, Brock McGregor, Karen Kirkwood-Whyte, Michael Bondy and Marjorie Crew are all looking to retain their seat on CK Council, while Doug Sulman is not seeking another term.
In Ward 4, long-time North Kent councillor and former Dresden mayor Joe Faas announced earlier this month that he will not be running for re-election. Incumbent councillor Jamie McGrail will be trying to retain her seat in the ward against seven other candidates.
Councillor Melissa Harrigan is running to keep her seat in Ward 1 North Kent, while Mark Authier has decided against running for another term. There are three other candidates in the running with two seats available.
In Ward 2, incumbents Anthony Ceccacci, Mary Clare Latimer and Trevor Thompson will all be aiming to keep their seats on council, with two additional candidates running in South Kent.
And there are five candidates vying for the two seats in Ward 3. Councillors John Wright and Steve Pinsonneault are both running for re-election in East Kent.
The municipal campaign will last just over two months with election day scheduled on October 24.
Voting can be done in advance online between October 3-16. A link for internet voting will be provided by the municipality when the online polls open.
Advance polling stations will be available on October 13-15 at six locations across the municipality. To find your closest advance polling station, click here.
To find your designated polling station for election day, click here and type in your address in the search field. Information regarding voting methods, dates, and locations will also be mailed to residents in late September.
