CK Public Health is recommending local families limit this year’s Thanksgiving dinner to your immediate family and household.
Following the provincial government’s recent tightening of public health measures and “pausing social circles”, Public Health is making the same request in regards to the upcoming holiday weekend.
Dr. David Colby and company are also showing concern for visitors coming to Chatham-Kent from other Ontario hotspots. Although this may be normal under ordinary circumstances, virtual gatherings and dinners are being recommended for those outside of your household.
“Thanksgiving may look different this year, but 2020 has given us many things to be thankful for,” Public Health posted on social media. “Learning how to connect with each other in creative ways and showing our thanks during times of hardship have shown how resilient the community of Chatham-Kent truly is!”
Public Health is also recommending local families prepare meals in advance and serve them on plates rather than the traditional “buffet” or “family” style. Local take-out is another recommended option.
The health unit further recommends holding meals outside if the weather allows, with a 25 person limit for outdoor gatherings.
“To protect our community from COVID-19, we must be mindful of the role we all play in helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19 during holidays, such as Thanksgiving,” adds Public Health. “We urge you to be diligent, follow public health guidance, and have safe and healthy Thanksgiving!”
