Before inviting friends over for a campfire, make sure you have a permit.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services says a Campfire Permit is only $20 per property for the year, and can be obtained on ckfes.ca.
Permit holders are responsible for renewing them each year, and campfires can burn until 1 in the morning.
On days where winds exceed 30 kilometers per hour, or during high or extreme weather index ratings, all burn permits will be temporarily suspended until conditions improve.
Open Burn Permits are also needed for agricultural operations under the revised Open Air Burn bylaw, allowing more exemptions, as well as larger or multiple fires.
