Canada Post workers across the country are set to vote on the Crown Corporation’s final offer for a collective agreement, after more than a year of negotiations.
Beginning on Monday, more than 53,000 Canada Post employees, represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), will decide whether or not to accept the new contract. Employees have until August 1 to cast their vote.
Canada Post and CUPW have remained at a significant impasse since December 2024, despite 19 months of negotiations, four global offers, mediation, and an Industrial Inquiry Commission.
Due to the ongoing uncertainty at Canada Post, customers across Canada have been using other delivery companies, causing parcel volumes to drop and financial losses to spike.
In June, Canada Post reported $10 million in operational losses per day, which is more than double the daily average losses in June 2024. In 2024, the Crown Corporation posted an operating loss of nearly $1.3 billion.
