This is Canada Road Safety Week as police officers across the country are working hard to make our highways safe.
Heading into the first long weekend of the summer season the message is the same even if travel conditions are not.
As we are well aware there are 4 main factors in most crashes police want to crack down on: impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and not wearing a seat belt. The results of these transgressions can range from fines and suspensions to injury and death.
Sgt Jim Lynds of the Chatham-Kent Traffic Management Unit says road safety is a top priority.
“Every year we investigate countless tragic traffic fatalities on our local roadways that are preventable,” Lynds says. “All road users including pedestrians, cyclist, drivers and commercial vehicle drivers have a role to play in making our roads safer for all. The Chatham-Kent Police Service will continue to educate and enforce the various traffic laws in an attempt to reduce death and injuries taking place on our roads.”
The campaign is #notworththerisk and is designed to make sure the roads in Chatham-Kent are among the safest in the country.
