The ballot is starting to fill in ahead of next month’s federal election.

The municipality of Chatham-Kent is lumped into a single riding for the first time with newly redrawn boundaries for the electoral district of Chatham-Kent-Leamington, giving voters one slate of candidates to choose from.

Incumbent Dave Epp is running for the Conservative Party of Canada once again. The Leamington resident was first elected to the House of Commons in 2019 and re-elected in 2021. Since becoming a Member of Parliament, Epp has served as Deputy Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food as well as a member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food. Currently, he sits on the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

Seamus Fleming has announced his candidacy for the New Democratic Party. The University of Ottawa student is currently working on his Master’s degree in Political Science and Government.

Trevor Lee has been tapped to carry the banner for the People’s Party of Canada. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Lee moved to southern Ontario in 2000. PPC officials say with a background in operations management and billing, Lee brings a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility and a deep understanding of community needs.

Local candidates have yet to be confirmed for the Liberal or Green parties.
