Chatham-Kent Council is being asked to green light a zoning amendment to allow a local cannabis operation to grow.

Zoning bylaw changes for the Longwoods Road property would increase the company’s maximum floor area from 30,000 square feet to 34,500 square feet.

As it stands, the property between Caledonia Road and Centre Side Road includes a cannabis production facility, one vacant building, and vacant industrial land.

The building was originally slated to be demolished, but the owners have now decided to use it for storage of supplies and equipment.

The application is one of several zoning issues on the agenda tonight. Once those are taken care of, council’s attention moves to the proposed redevelopment of the Downtown Centre.
