Over two months after announcing his intentions, Darrin Canniff has now officially filed his papers to seek a second term as Mayor of Chatham-Kent.

Canniff was elected as mayor in 2018 and previously served four years as a Chatham-Kent councillor from 2014 to 2018, representing Ward 6.

“We need to keep working hard on looking to the future and laying the groundwork for people that want to move here and businesses [as well],” Canniff said in an interview on XS Mornings when he announced his intention to seek a second term back in April. “That’s what’s driving everything is people wanting to come here, which is really exciting and I see that happening for the next several years.”

His is the first submission for the mayor’s seat with just over a month before the nomination deadline of August 19th.

Meantime more candidates are stepping forward to run for a seat on municipal council, including both Ward 5 incumbents Aaron Hall and Carmen McGregor.
