Car Wash Fire Leads To Arson Charge

A fire at a car wash has led to an arson charge for a Chatham man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the fire in a car wash bay on Grand Avenue East shortly before midnight on Sunday.

The fire was extinguished by police, and a 62-year-old Chatham man was taken to hospital by paramedics to be treated for possible smoke inhalation.

After reviewing CCTV footage of the incident, officers later arrested the man, alleging that he was responsible for the fire.

The accused has been charged with one count of arson and was released from custody with a future court date.
