Charges have been laid after a car that was stolen in Chatham was involved in a collision near Ingersoll.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said on Friday at around 12:10 p.m., a male and female assaulted a man in the parking lot of the LCBO on Wellington Street, before stealing his car.

The vehicle was last seen heading east on Highway 401 at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was later involved in a collision near Ingersol and a male and female were both arrested. The pair were taken to hospital and medically cleared before being transferred back to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters.

Both are facing several charges and have been held for bail and remanded into custody until their next court appearance on January 24. Police have provided no other information about the accused.
