Bridget Carleton is putting basketball on the back burner, at least for now.
The Chatham native has been playing professionally in France for the last two months, but came home just before Christmas.
“I’m actually not going back to France, I decided to stay home with everything going on in the world right now,” Carleton says. “During these times, it’s crazy, every league, every country is handling it differently, so for my mental sake, even my physical health, it’s better for me to be home with my family.”
However, despite all of the challenges of the last year, Carleton says 2020 has had some pretty spectacular moments.
“Number one would be qualifying for the Olympics back in early February when times were more normal, that’s been the highlight of my whole career so far,” she says. “Obviously disappointing that the Olympics didn’t happen, but understandable for sure.”
Carleton says the other highlight would be her season in the WNBA, playing with the Minnesota Lynx. She averaged 6.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.7 steals per game in 25.8 minutes per game during the 2020 season.
“I’m really proud of what I was able to do and make my mark on the league, and prove I deserve to be in the best league in the world.”
Carleton says at this point she’s not sure when she’ll start to play internationally again, but is hoping to get back on the court when the WNBA season resumes in late April.
