Applications are now being accepted for the province’s Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.

In all, the Ontario government is putting up $1.5 million for projects that aim to protect, restore, or enhance the Great Lakes and surrounding water systems.

Funding is available to not-for-profit groups, schools, and First Nations communities, among others. Successful projects can receive up to $25,000 and must have a direct environmental benefit to the Great Lakes.

The Great Lakes Basin is home to 40% of Canada’s economic activity and 95% of Ontario’s agricultural land.
