If all goes well, Chatham’s new casino could be open to the public in a few more months.
Gateway officials were on hand yesterday for a tour of the construction site at the corner of Keil and Richmond in Chatham, and say they’re on track to open by mid-2019.
CEO Tony Santo says the new 45,000 square foot facility will have a Chatham-Kent focus. “Our marketing plan is really towards local residents. We’re a local facility and that’s what we concentrate on, we want to be part of the community you may already have seen that’s participate in the community and donate through ‘Gateway gives’that’s really the impetus on how we develop our facilities, but we will branch out a little further to the 20-30km radius, but that’s how we look at our facilities,” says Santo. “We are moving some of the slot machines (from Dresden), so it will be a phasing, but we’ll have to close for 24-48 hours and then have the grand opening here.”
Santo says work is already underway to staff the casino, with an expectation to hire as many as 200 new staff including the Gateway employees who are already on the job in Dresden.
