The CASO Rail Trail, which is funded using dividends from Entegrus, will span 5.5km in Phase 1 of the project.
While many councillors are supporting the project, East Kent Councillor David VanDamme thinks this money could be spent elsewhere, like a Community Hub.
“It is money, it’s found money I suppose because Entegrus makes the effort to provide dividend income on that trail to the municipality, and those are all good things,” vanDamme says. “My plan of attack though is could we approach Entegrus differently and say we have another special need project that could bring so much more to this community.”
This first part of the trail will be completed in 2018.
