A beloved feline-based musical is set to take the stage at Chatham’s Capitol Theatre.
Theatre Kent performers will bring Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS to life this weekend.
Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the story unfolds in a whimsical setting where the Jellicle Cats gather for one magical night, the Jellicle Ball, during which one of their own will be chosen to be reborn into a new life on the Heavyside Layer.
Directed and choreographed by Jamie Johnston and with musical direction by Tom Overton, the production features nearly 60 performers ranging in age from eight to over eighty. The stage crew also includes a large number of volunteers, musicians, and families.
“What’s amazed me most is how this show has grown from a handful of ideas into this massive family, connected in creativity and talent,” said Producer Alyssa Burnett-Roffel in a news release. “The first time I heard the cast sing all together gave me chills. Now every rehearsal brings something new with another harmony locking in, another dance section cleaned up, or another friendship forming.”
Performances will run November 13–15 beginning at 7:30 p.m., with a 1:30 p.m. matinee on November 15 Tickets for the show can be purchased online by clicking here.
