CCTV Helps To Locate Missing Man

Police are crediting the use of CCTV technology with helping to locate a missing vulnerable man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a 92-year-old Chatham man was reported missing on Tuesday, leading officers to conduct an extensive search due to concerns for his well-being.

Authorities used CCTV and Automated Licence Plate Recognition technology to locate the missing man’s vehicle, which was spotted in Chatham and Bothwell. Later that evening, the vehicle was located travelling west on Longwoods Road in Thamesville.

Officers then received a 911 call at around 11 p.m. requesting an ambulance at a Longwoods Road residence. Officers located the missing man at the home and learned that his vehicle had run out of fuel.

The man also fell while exiting the vehicle and was taken to hospital for assessment.

“Technology such as CCTV can provide our officers with critical information that helps narrow a search area and direct police resources where they are needed most. When a vulnerable person is missing, every piece of timely information can make a difference,” said Staff Sergeant Jason Herder in a news release.

Police are commending the community members who assisted in the search.
