The YMCA in Chatham-Kent is celebrating eight decades in the community.

The YMCA is hosting an 80th Anniversary Celebration at Sons of Kent in Chatham on August 8, featuring live music and food trucks.

The event will include a historical exhibit highlighting the YMCA’s evolution, from its downtown roots to the state-of-the-art Courthouse Lane facility that opened in 2011. The display will also be available to the public at the Chatham-Kent YMCA at a later date.

The YMCA was first opened in Chatham in 1945 after a determined group of community builders raised $12,000 to make the facility a reality.

The anniversary event will kick off at 6 p.m. Admission is $20 in advance and $30 at the door, with free admission for children under 12. All proceeds raised will support the local YMCA’s financial assistance program. To purchase tickets, click here.
