The municipality is celebrating local art by placing it front and centre in council chambers.
Earlier this week, visual and performance artist Mark Reinhart brought his interactive yarn ball to the Civic Centre, talking to council members about experimental collaboration and the potential for change.
Mayor Darrin Canniff says art is a powerful way to reflect the community’s values, and the municipality will be working with a number of local artists moving forward to have their work represented in council chambers.
“We have a ton of great local artists, whether it’s music, whether it’s poetry, whether it’s sculptures or painting or whatever it might be, we want to start celebrating that.”
He says the goal is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone who visits council chambers, and show that art has the power to bring people together and spark important conversations.
