The newly formed Chatham-Kent Arts and Culture Network wants to pay tribute to the creativity of local residents.

Chair James Snyder says they’re now accepting nominations for the very first entries into the Arts and Culture Heroes Hall of Fame.

“While many communities have a Sports Hall of Fame, but not many have a Cultural Hall of Fame, and that’s as big an indicator of the viability of the community as anything else,” Snyder says.

The group, which was originally formed back in January, hopes to have at least five inductees per year moving forward, in categories of visual arts, music, dance, theatre arts, literary arts, and cultural builders or patrons.

“We have a wealth of cultural background and knowledge in arts, dance, we have probably more dance studios than any other community in Canada,” Snyder says. “We need to acknowledge those heroes in this community.”

At this point, a location for the Hall of Fame has yet to be determined, but Snyder says with so many arts and culture venues across Chatham-Kent, the sky’s the limit.

The deadline for nominations is August 20th. And the inductees will be unveiled each September.
