Chatham-Kent’s Black leaders have been honoured in high style.
The second annual Black Excellence Awards and Gala was held at the Retro Suites in Chatham Saturday night, honouring local entrepreneurs, educators, youth, and others who have made a lasting impact on the community.
“This event is about acknowledging those who are paving the way for future generations,” said Michelle Robbins, co-chair of the event. “It’s inspiring to see such a diverse group of individuals excelling in different fields, each leaving a lasting mark on our community.”
In all, nine awards were handed out, including Marsaydees Farrell as Female of the Year, Kyle S. Wright as male of the year, and Olive Olbey with the Trailblazer award.
“The Black Excellence Awards & Gala is more than just an event—it’s a movement that ensures the contributions of Black individuals in Chatham-Kent are recognized and celebrated and elevated,” said co-chair Doug Robbins. “Each nominee represents the hard work, resilience, and brilliance of our community, and we are proud to honour them.”
Organizers are already planning ahead to the third annual Black Excellence Awards in 2026, and say they remain dedicated to expanding the platform, creating more opportunities for recognition, and fostering a legacy of Black excellence, achievement, and community impact.
