An annual celebration of hope and freedom is returning to Chatham-Kent this weekend.
Emancipation Day activities will be held on Saturday at the Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History in Dresden.
Commemorating the end of slavery in the British Empire on August 1, 1834, the free, fun, and educational event will feature music, dynamic speakers, food, and activities for all ages.
This weekend’s Master of Ceremonies will be award winning broadcaster and Dresden-native Trevor Thompson. Visitors will have the chance to sample craft beer from Sons of Kent Brewing Company, view an exhibit on Dresden’s Black military legacy, and explore the museum.
Lunch will be available for purchase. Organizers say seating is available, but guests are also invited to bring their own lawn chair.
