A special event is taking place this weekend, honouring the region’s contributions to the oil industry.

Saturday marks the annual Black Gold Fest at the Oil Museum of Canada in Oil Springs.

The family-friendly event celebrating the first commercial oil well in North America includes crafts, demonstrations, face-painting, and more. Historical blacksmithing demonstrations will run throughout the day at the Blacksmith Shop.

“We are thrilled to invite the community to celebrate our local oil heritage at this great summer event,” said Jessica Stevenson, Marketing and Events Coordinator with Lambton County Museums and Archives. “Oil heritage is an important part of Lambton County’s history, so it will be extra special to celebrate Black Gold Fest during Lambton’s 175th year.”

Black Gold Fest runs from 11-4 with local food and drink vendors on site.

Everything is free of charge with donations accepted. For more information on vendors and exhibitors, please visit the Oil Museum’s website.
