Changes to CK’s Municipal Election

With a municipal election coming up next fall, candidates have a few new things to look out for.

Nominations can be filed starting May 1st, rather than January 1st in previous elections, with a deadline of July 27th.

Candidates now also have to obtain 25 endorsement signatures for eligible electors before they can run.

Fees have changed as well, it will cost $200 to run for Mayor, and $100 to run for councillor or school board trustee.

Campaign contributions cannot be raised or collected until the nomination is filed with the Clerk’s office.

The municipal election will be held on October 22nd.
