When municipal meetings shifted online during the Covid-19 pandemic, Chatham-Kent Council changed its rules to allow for citizen deputations on items of interest to be read by municipal staff as part of council meetings.

However, since council is now meeting in-person, council will discuss amending a by-law to not allow the reading of submitted deputations by the clerk’s office.

Submitted deputations will be part of the official minutes, and in-person deputations are still able to make a presentation during council meetings to express their views.

At tonight’s meeting in Chatham, council will also discuss moving back the deadline time of a deputation request by three hours to allow staff more time for staff and council to review the deputations.
