As Earth Day approaches, a local service club that typically promotes equality for women is shifting its focus to battle climate change.
The Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent has started a new fundraiser, which promotes changing an everyday practice in a way that is healthier for the environment.
“Since many women are social leaders, we can take the lead to make changes toward carbon neutrality and support government and international initiatives to combat climate change,” said Zonta President Corrinne Kennedy in a news release. “The climate is changing, and we need to change too.”
The group is currently selling ultra-concentrated liquidless laundry detergent strips that can be used in place of normal liquid or powder detergent.
The strips, created by Canadian company Tru Earth, weigh significantly less than typical detergents and reduce carbon emissions by cutting transportation costs by 97 per cent. There is also no plastic in the packaging, making it even more environmentally friendly.
“Many small actions can have a big impact, and changing your current way of washing clothes to a more eco-friendly one is something everyone can do easily,” said Kennedy.
The detergent strips can be ordered online by clicking here and the product is shipped directly to your home, free of charge.
