A Chatham man has been charged after allegedly refusing to pay for an online order from a local business.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were contacted about a reported theft on Wednesday shortly before 7:30 p.m.
According to police, a delivery driver from a St. Clair Street business attended a residence on Birchwood Street to drop off an online order. However, when the customer took possession of the package, he allegedly refused to pay and closed the door.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and discovered the open package after being given consent to enter the home.
As a result, a 23-year-old Chatham was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
