Charges Laid After Tesla Cybertruck Vandalized

A surge of anti-Tesla sentiment across Canada and the U.S. appears to have arrived in Chatham-Kent, leading to charges against a local man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the parking lot of a St. Clair Street business in Chatham just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday after the owner of a Tesla Cybertruck reported that an unknown man was damaging his vehicle.

According to police, the man was seen striking and keying the vehicle while shouting racial slurs at the owner.

While the man left before police arrived, officers were able to identify a suspect who was located and arrested at the intersection of St. Clair Street and McNaughton Avenue. During his arrest, the accused allegedly spit at one of the officers.

As a result, a 27-year-old Chatham man is now charged with mischief over $5,000 and assaulting a peace officer. He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
