An argument between a local couple has ended in dangerous driving charges.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were approached by witnesses at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, who reported seeing an argument between a man and his girlfriend at a residence on Sheldon Avenue in Chatham.

The witnesses saw the man reversing a vehicle with the door open and his girlfriend partially inside. As the situation escalated, a witness attempted to intervene by standing in front of the vehicle. The driver then continued forward with his girlfriend still not fully inside the vehicle.

Officers later located the man and woman at a residence in the south end of Chatham. After the man admitted to being an unlicensed driver and acknowledged operating the vehicle during the incident, he was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

As a result, a 27-year-old Chatham man is now charged with two counts of dangerous driving. He has since been released from custody with conditions and will answer the charges in court next month.
