Two people have been arrested following a crash in Chatham over the noon-hour on Monday.
Emergency crews responded to Keil Drive and McNaughton Avenue shortly after 12:40. Officers on scene suspected the woman behind the wheel was impaired by an intoxicating substance.
As the woman was being put into the back of the police cruiser, authorities say a man tried to help the woman escape. He was then arrested as well and both were taken to police headquarters.
The 49-year-old woman is charged with impaired driving by drugs and obstructing a peace officer.
The man, a 39-year-old, was also charged with obstructing a peace officer.
Both were released with conditions and separate dates in court next month.
