A local man will have to answer to a judge in court following a theft from a Wallaceburg business.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the Warwick Drive business at around 8:45 a.m. on Thursday after a man concealed several items and attempted to leave the store without paying. When confronted by staff, authorities said the man dropped the items and ran off.
Utilizing witness statements and surveillance footage, officers were able to identify a suspect who was located nearby and arrested. Police later learned the accused had an outstanding warrant for a similar offence.
A 38-year-old Chatham man is now charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and failing to comply with probation. He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
