Authorities in Essex County are cracking down on unsafe drivers in construction zones on the 401.
Provincial Police say between 8:15am and 1pm on Thursday, officers with the OPP, Windsor Police, LaSalle Police, and the Ministry of Transportation conducted speed enforcement and commercial vehicle safety inspections in the westbound lanes between Puce Road and Manning Road.
In all, 76 charges were laid, including five stunt driving charges. Authorities say one driver was clocked going over 180 kilometres an hour in a 100 zone.
Most drivers were charged with speeding, but inspectors also charged several commercial vehicle operators for equipment, annual inspection, and documentation infractions.
Drivers are reminded to slow down in construction zones, especially with crews on site. Not only can speeding be dangerous, it can also prove costly with fines doubled when workers are present.
