Charges Laid in Bus-Tanker Collision

Charges have now been laid following a crash involving a school bus and tanker truck near Prairie Siding.

Chatham-Kent Police say the truck, whichpolice-crest was carrying 50,000 litres of diesel fuel, swerved to avoid hitting the bus shortly before 9 o’clock Tuesday morning.

The truck rolled onto its side, causing the tank to rupture and spill about 35,000 litres of fuel into a nearby drainage ditch.

The driver of the truck was sent to hospital with minor injuries, while a few students on the bus also reported minor injuries.

The Ministry of Environment and emergency response teams were called in to clean up the spill, with damages exceeding $250,000.

The 60-year-old driving the bus is charged with failing to yield.
