Assault charges have been laid following an altercation in Chatham over the Easter long weekend.

According to Chatham-Kent Police, a man and woman got into an argument while walking on King Street on Sunday when the man allegedly attacked the woman twice, both incidents witnessed by bystanders.

The man fled before police were called and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday, the accused was found on Wellington Street and taken into custody.

The 41-year-old has now been charged with two counts of assault and was held in custody for a bail hearing.
