Impaired driving charges have been laid following a hit and run in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent Police were called to the area of Garden Path and Balmoral Road Saturday evening, and say the suspect vehicle was found a short distance away on Baldoon Road.
The driver, a 24-year-old Ottawa man, was arrested for impaired operation and taken to police headquarters for tests.
While in the police cruiser, authorities say the suspect began spitting in the back seat.
In all, the accused is facing charges of operation while impaired, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, mischief under $5000, as well as Highway Traffic Act offences of failing to remain, fail to give the required information, and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance.
He was released from custody with a date in court next month.
